The Dance Gallery offers a variety of dance classes across all ability levels throughout the year for girls and boys, from toddlers to teens. We are frequently introducing new classes into our schedule in order to expose students to new dance styles and genres.
Jazz classes focus on the beginning elements of jazz technique with an emphasis on coordination, style, and rhythm. Students will learn the basics of body isolations, pirouettes, jumps, and classic jazz footwork along with more modern combinations of movement.
Creative dance is an ideal class as an introduction to dance. Classes are designed to explore movement through music, stimulate the students' imagination and promote creativity. Classes provide children with an understanding of basic ballet positions and and develop fine motor skills all while having fun.
Bollywood is the dance style of the Indian film industry— known for its high energy steps and fusing of Indian classical, Indian folk, jazz, contemporary, and modern dance steps. Students will learn traditional Indian classical and folk repertoire along with choreography to popular Bollywood music.
Prior to pointe work, ballet students must take a minimum of one year of pre-pointe classes in order to build necessary strength in the feet. Pre-pointe classes consist of exercises to strengthen thecore, back extension, proper pelvic alignment, endurance, ankle strengthening, and muscular firing patterns essential for proper execution of pointe work free of injury. Elements from the floor work are then applied to barre and center exercises, with an emphasis on correct placement and turnout. Students must have developed a solid technical foundation and knowledge of ballet before they can take pre-pointe classes.
Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn from the two major variations of tap styles, Broadway (also known as theater or show tap) and Rhythm (or jazz tap). Classes emphasize developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and having fun.
Ballet classes emphasize the core fundamentals of ballet: placement, execution of the steps, understanding ballet terminology, and musicality, phrasing, and transitions (connecting one movement to another). As students advance in level, these fundamentals are reinforced, and classes take a traditional format of barre followed by center exercises and across the floor combinations. Moving in time becomes more important, as well as memorization of terminology. As students progress, they will learn more complex combinations.
Ballet / Tap
Ballet / Tap is an exploration of ballet technique and basic tap skills. Ballet technique and movement will be taught for the first part of class, and tap skills and movement will be taught in the second half of class. This is a great way to learn two dance styles within one class.
Hip Hop classes are highly energetic and designed to teach rhythm, coordination and balance through age-appropriate movements set to rap, hip-hop and pop sounds. This style is upbeat and great for girls and boys who like to move and are interested in non-traditional styles of dance. Hip Hop classes emphasize fun, attitude, and the opportunity to develop one's own sense of style.
Contemporary classes focus on a style of expressive movement that combines several dance genres including modern, lyrical, jazz and ballet techniques.
Musical Theater classes focus on learning proper dance technique while exploring the various dance styles used in Broadway shows. Classes are based on ballet technique layered with Broadway-style jazz movement. Emphasis will also be placed on learning performance skills, such as connecting with the audience and telling a story through dance and facial expressions.
Pointe classes are offered to ballet students who have achieved the musculature and alignment necessary to support themselves correctly and confidently in pointe shoes. Readiness for pointe work is determined by each student’s strength and physical development, not by their age. The instructor will advise parents when a student has the necessary strength and maturity to go on pointe, and pointe class may be taken only with the permission of the instructor. Students will utilize previously learned ballet technique from pre-pointe and ballet class while working in pointe shoes.
Begin to learn the beautiful, traditional art form of Irish Dance. Dancers will explore basic irish dance steps through music, rhythm, timing, technique, culture, and community. No experience necessary. Open to boys and girls ages 8-12.
All DGNY Dancers are required to take at least three classes per week, including company rehearsal, one ballet class and one technique class (such as jazz or modern).
Our program includes a Junior Company (9-12 years old) and a Senior Company (13+ years old). Admission into each of these companies is by invitation.
DGNY Tap Company is our newest performing company (for tappers 12+ years old). Dancers must take at least three classes per week, including tap company rehearsal, one tap class and one elective class.

The Dance Gallery offers year-round dance, fitness and cardio classes for adults, including Salsa, Tap and Adult Ballet/Contemporary. No dance experience or ability is necessary.
All classes are "drop-in" (except Tap) so all you have to do is turn up, join in and get ready to work up a sweat and have fun.
